THE LABORS OF LOVE!

There can be no other occupation like gardening in which, if you were to creep up behind someone at their work, you would find them smiling.

Here is a recent picture of my gardening area!  I spend so much time in this wonderful area that my awesome husband has created for me!  It is definitely a wonderful therapy to be able to nuture tiny seeds to thriving plants that will become food for my family.  I am evolving this great area on a daily basis and will keep pictures posted so you all can see how it is doing!  I have direct- sowed beans, well as more squash and zucchini.  The cooler weather has slowed down the germination process and I am still waiting for the tiny seedlings to emerge!  I am having great luck with Kale, Broccoli, Cabbage, and my peas are still coming on strong but have not bloomed as of yet!  Many things are changing in this wonderful garden!

Happy Gardening and Best of luck to all the gardeners out there!

  3. Hi Mindy! I found you via Annie. She is such a wonderful gardener! I am interested in the set up in this picture of your big barrels up higher. Do you have something under them to support them? Where did you find your big black barrels? I live in Northwest IN which would be 5b zone I think. I love to garden but just have a small lot. Started a blog just recently to share my gardening excitement. Would love if you would visit me. I welcome any suggestions how to do better! Nancy at Cozy Thyme Cottage

    1. Hi Nancy! Yes Annie is wonderful gardener! My husband has multiple 2 X 4's under each barrel for support! I found the big black barrels at Lowes a couple of years ago! Believe it or not they were on clearance for $1.00 apiece and I just couldn't pass them up. I bought them and had no clue what I was going to do with them. They are actually the inserts that you put inside whiskey barrels to create a water feature! I will definitely visit your blog! Thanks so much for visiting mine! I look foward to sharing gardening advice in the future! Happy Gardening! Mindy

  4. Hi! I am looking for advice!! lol At the recycle center where we got our wood chip mulch they had big white barrels. They plant veggies and flowers in them at the recycle center. They gave us two barrels. Bob cut them in two and rinsed them out. We plan to use soap and water on them tomorrow and then bleach as they had chemicals in them. The guy said use a little bleach. How much is a little! ha We thought after washing with soap and water we would put a gallon of bleach plus water in each half barrel which I figure probably holds about 25 gallon. I thought leave it sit a half hour and then rinse. Does this sound reasonable to use safely then for veggies do you think? Thank you for your thoughts! Nancy

  5. I think the dilution will be key and one gallon of bleach to 25 gallons of water sounds good! Those sound really neat! Just a few holes in the bottom will help with drainage too! Sounds like you will have some more space to grow some flowers and veggies! Fun! Fun! Happy Gardening! Mindy
